The concept of hydrogen-methane blends storage in underground mine excavations – gas permeability of concrete

Power–to–gas technology gives the possibility to store excess power from renewable energy sources by converting electrical into gas such as eg. hydrogen. There is however a problem with accessibility of sites where pure hydrogen can be stored. Hence, idea blending methane and use underground mine excavations increase storage capacity, apart salt caverns. However, has strong capability diffuse through different materials, including steel some minerals. The paper proposes concept hydrogen/methane blends in abandoned excavations. Research focused on permeability concrete barrier for stored gases. Gas two methods: pulse – decay steady state, were compared. investigated geopolymers depends composition pressure conditions, axial stress. A significant improvement tightness achieved, using synthetic compounds.
